33 Olive Tree - in the Parks
About This Spot
Stepping into 33 Olive Tree in the heart of Craighall Park gently unfolds a rare blend of casual warmth and lively family energy. It’s the kind of place where the hum of joyful chatter from children playing drifts alongside the clink of glasses and the inviting aroma of wood-fired pizzas and slow-roasted lamb. Time seems to slow just enough to savor both moments of peaceful connection and the bustling rhythm of a weekend gathering.
This spot wears many hats with ease, creating a seamless rhythm where parents can unwind over a carefully mixed G&T or a brioche breakfast bun, while children roam freely through the sun-kissed playground, climbing treehouses, conquering slides, or finding their tribe amid arts and crafts. The play areas and attentive childminders create a natural backdrop for relaxed conversations, knowing little ones are happily engaged just steps away.
There’s a grounded joy in watching families and friends gather here, whether it’s before a friendly game of padel or while sharing the rich, hearty flavors of ribs and steaks. Its open-air beer garden breathes life into each occasion, making it a natural meeting point where owners and staff alike take genuine pleasure in welcoming back familiar faces as well as fresh ones discovering this neighborhood gem.
Beyond the food and drink, 33 Olive Tree feels like an embrace—a space designed with thoughtfulness that invites lingering, laughter, and the uncomplicated pleasure of being together. Whether you arrive with kids in tow or for a casual catch-up, the atmosphere quietly assures you that you’re stepping into a place where every detail, from the spirited staff to the vibrant playground, draws you into a shared local moment.

Ten out of ten over ten, and another ten! Freddy and the team? Thank you!! What an amazing first time experience visiting you and watching the rugby. From being able to accommodate a reservation that went from 2-10 pax, with great screen views. The food, the child minders. I really cannot fault you, and will definitely be seeing you again. Soon!

What a hidden gem. I went there for the first time today with my kids and I’ve decided to go back for my daughter’s 2nd birthday lunch. I had to drag my kids out of there screaming. The food was yummy for adults, the kids have their own delicious menu and they get to interact with other kids in the spacious playground - there’s painting, tree houses, slides, jumping castle, you name it. I found the variety of the menu good. The restaurant has a rustic outdoor aesthetic. Hate to say it but it’s 100x better than joy jozi for me and the service was great. The owner welcomes you and makes you feel at home. I’ve found a new go-to place for my kids and I will post more pics after the birthday lunch.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A New Favorite! Thank you for a truly lovely experience. The food was absolutely excellent—full of flavor and fantastic value for money. We had the pleasure of meeting your amazing team during a commercial shoot, and from that moment on, it’s safe to say this has become our new favorite spot. Great vibes, great people, and unforgettable meals. We’ll definitely be back!

We had our year end lunch at Ajs in the Park today. Wow, what a lovely place. The food was amazing. Our staff played padel before working up an appetite and let me tell you, it was worth it. The entire process was seamless, from booking the venue, to setting up the perfect menu according to our budget, and arranging everything so that our staff had fun, despite the weather. Thank you Voyk for taking every call and answering every query in the buildup to the event. We will definitely be back. Thank you from us at News24.

I was invited to a children's birthday party. We were welcomed by one of the owners, Voyk, with a big smile, and I almost felt like I was welcomed into somebody's home. The photos do absolutely no justice to the volume of food served in the platters. The fruit platter was crisp and cold with only the tastiest fruits. The ribs were succulent, and the meat just fell off the bone. The basting was not too sweet, and the volume was spot on. The chicken strips were perfectly fried and still juicy inside, I often find chicken breast dry, but these were amazing. The pregos were well balanced with fresh buns and a generous piece of chicken. The children were constantly entertained with lots to do. The kiddies' play area is clean and well maintained. The slip and slide was one of the highlights for our kids. There was a magic show that the kids loved. There's also painting, for R100 the children can choose a canvas to paint and take home. Overall, it was an amazing day, enjoyed by all, and I can't wait to go back.

Lovely venue, well situated and perfect for little children. The menu doesn't have much variety but the meal we had was enjoyable. The service was friendly and helpful, although they had to go a few times back to the kitchen to answer questions of the menu, but all around good service. Worth a try if you have kids especially.
